Scouting Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) October 17, 2020 – Watchung Reservation.  Members of the TCRA worked with the Munsee District of the Patriot’s Path Council for the 4th consecutive year.  This year’s event was scaled back to one day rather than 3 days due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Merit Badge Counselors Billy Malone, KD2JRI and Eric Duetchman, WB2LMW worked with 16 Scouts to complete the requirements to be awarded their Radio Merit Badge.  In addition, approximately 14 scouts signed up for time slots to get in front of the microphone and attempt a radio contact.  The club utilized a headset adapter and connected a foot pedal and hands free microphone to eliminate contact with the equipment.  Overall, band conditions were not very good. We were able to receive stations but most were involved in Nets or the NY QSO party so we were not able to make contact.  The scouts were afforded an opportunity to utilize HT radios to make contacts and enjoy a short conversation utilizing the W2LI repeaters.  One Scout parent heard her son talking to his classmates about how he was able to talk to someone in Southern NJ.  TCRA looks forward to returning to a full weekend event in 2021.  In 2019 over 200 scouts participated in JOTA.
